Children / Family Liturgy ˆ Back To Top

The Children / Family Liturgy is typically celebrated the last Sunday of the month, September through April, at the 9:30 am in the church, with a special celebration on Christmas Eve. Families in the parish Religious Education program and parish school take an active role in the liturgy as greeters, lectors, gift bearers, ushers, and Eucharistic ministers. The Children’s Choir leads us in song for this liturgy. The readings and homily are geared toward the children in the assembly, with a theme for parents/adults in the assembly to build on at home during the week. All are welcome to join in the celebration.

Children's Liturgy of the Word ˆ Back To Top

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered every Sunday at 9:30 am, except when a Children / Family Liturgy is celebrated. Children in kindergarten and up are invited to assemble after the Opening Prayer to receive a blessing as they dismiss to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word with their leader. The leader utilizes the scriptures from the Children’s Lectionary for that week and guides the children to a greater awareness of God’s presence in their lives through discussion, song, and prayer. The children return to the assembly during the Presentation of the Gifts to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Family Mass ˆ Back To Top

Sunday Liturgy at 10 am in the Gym. During the Summer time in July and August this Family Mass Community meets in McDonough Hall (Gleeson Building, 1101 N. Columbian) and returns to the Gym in September - Begun over 35 years ago as a “gym Mass”, the Family Mass Community developed into a small community within the larger St. Giles parish community. The Family Mass Community gathers each week in the St. Giles Parish Gym at 10 am to celebrate mass together. Members make a personal commitment to being “family” to one another. Being a small community within the larger parish requires a high level of participation by our members. Each week members of the Family Mass Community gather to prepare and delegate tasks for the upcoming Sunday liturgy.

Contemporary Mass ˆ Back To Top

Twice a month, St. Giles teens lead the liturgical ministries at our weekly 11:15 Mass. They participate as lectors, ushers and Eucharistic ministers. They also lead the assembly’s music as cantors, choir and musicians. Their music reflects the common parish repertoire as well as many contemporary songs. All are welcome to join in these spirit-filled celebrations.

Contemplative Mass ˆ Back To Top

Every second Sunday of the month, St. Giles celebrates a Contemplative Mass at 5 pm. A contemplative mass is different in several external ways. Lights are dimmed and candlelight surrounds the altar. Chants and simple refrains characterize the music which serves to quietly unite all who are present. There is also more time for silence and reflection. All are invited to share in this peaceful, sacred and beautiful celebration of the Eucharist.

All-School Masses ˆ Back To Top

Eight to ten times a year, St. Giles student body gathers with the parish community to celebrate an all-school mass or prayer service that highlights a special liturgical feast or school event. Each liturgy is planned by one of the buddy grade groupings (1st and 5th, 2nd and 6th, 3rd and 7th, or 4th and 8th). Students take on active roles in the liturgies as choir, musicians, procession, gift bearers, lectors, and ushers.

Eucharistic Adoration ˆ Back To Top

A HOLY TIME IN A HOLY PLACE - What better place to block out the mental chatter in our minds than being in the company of our Lord in a Holy place at a Holy hour? Quiet time without interruption. After a hard day’s work, we often come home exhausted to the safe havens of our homes. We might sit in our favorite recliner, put on the boob tube, sip a glass of wine, and that’s okay, but time with Jesus, offers us more, not just relaxation of our bodies, but also of our spirits, after all we are spiritual beings too. He says, “Come to me all you who toil and are burdened and I will refresh you.” That includes the whole package, our bodies, minds, emotions, intellect, that is our souls. He refreshes us and gives us clarity to get back in the grind tomorrow.
Here is a get-away that only costs minutes of your time. Come join us for the Holy Hour at St. Giles on Thursdays from 8 to 9 pm. An invitation from a parishioner. As Jesus said to those seeking Him: “Come and See.”
